Production Schedule

Double Page Spread Article Discussion

Despite having a vague idea of what sort of material I wanted to include in my double page spread article, it was completely improvised and wrote in the space of five minutes. Despite the lack of time I put in for this particular feature, I did put a lot of care in my writing and it is pretty unique

The article is in the first person from a journalist's perspective of the meeting he had with my main artist. The journalist includes quotes and he summarises the interview they had.

I asked an English teacher what he thought of it and if it was worth including in my double page spread and he said he liked it and was more than acceptable. That made me feel proud to think that in such a short space of time, a key feature I produced was rather credible.

Original Article For Double Page Spread

Scarlett Deville has that presence very few possess. The arrogance she has for such a young age is admirable.

“I’ve always had faith in my ability” Proclaims the 18 year old musician, “We weren’t the richest family out there and I had a couple of hard times growing up. I always felt like music was the only way I could be something.”

We spoke for a while about her childhood. She said how she wasn’t the sharpest tool in the box but she was 100% committed to everything she participated in. “I can say right here right now hand on heart that I have never given up on anything“

I had a bit of a tough time in school. I never had friends and everyone was a bit of a knob to me” She says this without a care in the world

“I don’t wanna talk about them sort of people though, so can we leave this?” When I asked why she replied, “I am rich, they are not.”

I can tell now she is looking rather agitated and she looks me right in the eye and says, “Are we going to talk about Rock and Roll? I am currently the hottest thing in rock, there’s no one else out there like myself, I am a break from the norm and both sexes adore me.”

Can you see why?” I nod. She adds; “I don’t care if I look good, I don’t care about what I wear, I don’t care if I offend anyone my job is to make music, and people need to realise this.”

I could tell she was very angry at the time.  She released all her anger, she was ranting.

This is the real Scarlett Deville. No more gimmicks. I ask her more about this and how she relates this to her music.

“When I perform it’s like I’m venting all the anger that I have ever felt in my lifetime. It’s like method acting, all the pain I’ve been put through gets portrayed through my music.

The haters make it easier for me to create better music. I’m very sensitive deep down, with the help of them I can make real and honest music, I wouldn’t be anywhere without them.”

“I’m not gonna say anything more to you, I no longer have weak mentality. This is the birth of a rock goddess. Of course I’m not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, I’m a coffee woman myself. But people just need to accept that I’m a motherfucking genius. It’s as simple as that.”

Scarlett Deville has recently signed to yet another record label, and is currently working on her first album.

Analysis Of My Results

My Results

This powerpoint shows my results. Survey Monkey has grouped the results together into a table to make the analysis much easier for me. When making the magazine I will use certain criteria, to choose certain aspects of what is going to be in the magazine.

Making a Masthead

For your magazine page, it is vital you have an eye catching masthead that grabs readers' attention right from the off.

I went on to www.dafont.com as I went to search for a font that fits my genre and would eye catching enough.

This is the category I went on in search of my masthead, I don't know why but I just had a feeling I was going to find the one.

METAL LORD was the font that caught my eye

I typed in the title of my magazine in the box, my title is 'ACID RAIN' and I pressed submit.

And here it is, my masthead. I am really proud of how it looks. I strongly think that it has that iconic 'heavy' rock feel to it. I might have to make more edits depending on how my pages look from here on in.

Title Block Analysis

For this specific masthead, the writing is really bold. It is in your face and the style of font will instantly attract the reader. The background is black and the title is white, making it stand out even more.

The font style is quite plain although it stands out. Rock is bigger because to reiterate the genre of music. The word 'classic' is in block capitals because it is significantly smaller than the word 'rock' the capitals make it a strong masthead, which also stands out.

This is an extremely unique title block. The font style is classic and perhaps holds roots of an artistic element, showing signs that the music is an art. The attention to detail in this title block is like no other. It stands out even more than the previous two because it is in three dimensional magnifying the attention the audience will instantly attract. The main colour is a deep bold red which challenges stereotypes but adds its own special stamp, rock fans will instantly recognise this title block.

Costume/Props Planning

Costume Planning

When it comes to costumes, I have to choose on that will nrepresnt my chosen genre and also the target audience. This costume planning can alkso hllep me with my production schendule so I manage my time efficientlty.

For the costume, a leather jacket is the obvious choice. It is such an iconic item of clothing that everyone around the world would associate with rock. It would be foolish of me not to have my model wearing a leather jacket.

A white t shirt because it is very simplistic. I want my cover star to follow typical conventions as well as look stylish and the white t shirt would really compliment the leather jacket. I don't want any patterns on it because I don't want any focus distracted from the leather jacket.

A pair of leather trousers would also be a very iconic choice which fits the common stereotypes. It would be a good decision to have my cover star wearing all leather because it shows I have carefully thought about what rock stars look  and how my cover star looks no different to the classic rock Gods.

And of course, no rock star would be complete without and electric guitar. in order to make my cover star believable he needs some form of rock star esque instrument or prop and of course, the electric guitar is the best option and it would make things much more realistic.

Reader Profile

Who's reading my magazine?

Here i have created two reader profiles showing who I would expect to be reading my magazine.

Reader Profile 1

James is 36 and is obsessed with all kinds of rock. He listens to all sub genres within rock such as pop rock indie rock and also the harder rock like heavy metal. He knows how to play the guitar and bass guitar as well as drums. In his university days, whenever he could find the time he would go to any gig or concert available as well as participating in a band with his fellow students and they would also play gigs. He loves catching up with his old pals who he describes as ‘real muso people’ and they get together and have a jam or two. He isn’t too keen on attending gigs as regularly as he did but he always makes sure he goes to Glastonbury. To make sure he keeps up to date he is constantly buying rock magazines and is currently teaching his child how to play the guitar and the drums.

Reader Profile 2

Matt, 20, is a rock fan. He goes to many rock concerts and also enjoys spending his time at music festivals supporting all the new acts. He prefers soft rock from its punchy beat and memorable tunes. He occasionally works at McDonald's as a part time job but is currently at university studying Art. Instead of buying music digitally, he likes going to record shops and spends`most of his disposable income on vinyls. It gives music a more retro feel. Currently he lives with his parents due to the high cost of student housing but that means he can spend more money on music. He likes all of the new technology.
